The scene
Thirty-two seconds from the English dub of Ghost Stories, the anime whose dub famously abandoned the script and improvised something far ruder. Mio Imai, a schoolgirl, has brought her dead pet rabbit Shirotabi back to life and is now tearfully explaining why they cannot be together. She has nine lines. Satsuki opens with one, telling her she is pathetic. The Rabbit gets three — a giggle and two requests that are, in the dub's hands, unmistakably innuendo. Mio's final line reveals that the obstacle is not that he is a rabbit.
The joke is a bait and switch: the speech is built like a tragic romance, all remembered laughter and funny little requests, and the title tells you the expected punchline is coming, then the last line swaps it for something about the rabbit's colour that the dub plays entirely for shock. It is a scene about the dub's willingness to go somewhere it should not, and dubbing it yourself is a chance to play the melodrama absolutely straight so the ending lands — or to rewrite the last line and land something kinder. Either way, the tearful build is the acting.

Performing it
Mio's lines are a eulogy and only work played wet: quavering, sincere, each remembered detail a little more emotional than the last. The trap is that they are short and quick, so the sobbing cannot eat the words. The Rabbit's cues interleave with hers as flashback interjections and want a completely different voice — small, chirpy, and in the original deliberately suggestive; a squeaky innocent reading is funnier and safer. Satsuki's opener is one flat line of contempt. The final two cues are one sentence broken in half; the pause between them is the whole joke, so hold it. In a two-player room, one player gets the grief and the other gets the rabbit.
The dialogue is muted and everything else stays — the score, the room, the picture. You record each line over the silence and the scene plays back with you in the cast. How a dub is made · what the score measures.
