The scene

Kira introduces himself: thirty-three years old, works at Kame Yu department stores, in bed by eleven, eight hours of sleep, a warm glass of milk and twenty minutes of stretching. Twenty-five lines over two minutes, eighteen of them his, and the other seven are Shigechi making increasingly nervous noises.

It is one of the most quoted monologues in the series precisely because it is so mundane for so long. The turn comes late — he does not concern himself with winning or losing, but if he were ever to engage in combat he would win without question — and then he names Shigechi as an irksome troublemaker who stands to hinder his sleep. He introduces Killer Queen, says he is quite proud of the moniker, and promises he will sleep soundly tonight.

Performing it

Play it as a CV being read aloud. The comedy and the menace both come from how boring Kira is willing to be, so resist adding colour to the first two thirds — flat, pleasant, faintly proud of his sleep hygiene. Shigechi's seven lines are all nervous noise and they are the audience's cue for how worried to be, so escalate them steadily from polite chuckles to a shriek. The turn is one line and should not be signposted. I'll sleep soundly tonight is the button and works best said warmly. A strong lead part with a very manageable second.
