The scene
Four Wall Street men in a boardroom, and the only thing at stake is stationery. Patrick Bateman produces his new business card, and within a minute Van Patten and Bryce have each trumped it with cards that look, to any sane eye, exactly the same. Bateman carries nine of the nineteen lines, but two of them aren't spoken at all: they're the voice in his head, and the gap between his polite murmurs out loud and the quiet catastrophe going on inside him is the whole joke. Luis gets the last word, noticing that Patrick is sweating.
The rhythm is a wine tasting. Nobody raises their voice. Cards are passed, tilted to the light, appraised with the vocabulary of a paint catalogue, and the men murmur approval like priests. Bryce needles Van Patten about how a nitwit developed taste; Van Patten manages a single wounded hum. Then Paul Allen's card lands on the table and Bateman's narration goes somewhere close to grief. It's a scene about status anxiety played completely straight, which is exactly why it's so satisfying to dub.

Performing it
The trap is the final monologue over Paul Allen's card. Everyone rushes it. Slow down, breathe between the phrases, and let each observation about the off-white colouring land like a small personal defeat. The spoken Bateman lines want the opposite: flat, pleasant, a man holding it together. Bryce is the fun supporting role, since his nitwit jab is the only line delivered outward with any relish. In a two-player room, one voice as Bateman and one as the rest of the table works well; the other three men are practically interchangeable, and that's the point. Whisper the words Silian Rail like they mean something.
