The scene
A field at night, two friends, one of whom has led the other out there to kill him. Shane has been building to this all season on The Walking Dead, and Rick knows it before Shane admits it. Rick opens with questions, three of them in a row, then goes after the thing Shane actually wants: Lori, the kids, the life. Shane answers with a rant. He is a better father, a better man, and Rick came back and broke everything. He says to raise the gun, twice. Rick has twenty-three of the forty lines, Shane seventeen, but Shane’s are the long ones.
The scene turns on how differently the two men use their voices. Shane gets louder and more Southern, the accent that gave the tagline its spelling, until he’s shouting single words across the dark. Rick goes the other way. His final dozen lines are a lullaby: watch my hand, nice and easy, we lay the guns down, we walk back together, back to Lori, back to Carl. It sounds like surrender and it is a setup. Dubbing it, you get to decide how much of that Rick is letting Shane hear.

Performing it
Shane’s speech about being the better man runs several lines without a break and peaks where he accuses Rick of destroying everything; that word is the ceiling, so build to it and don’t go there early. Rick is the harder part. His closing run is a string of very short lines, and the trap is filling them with emotion. Keep them flat, slow, almost bored, and let the tension come from how little he gives away. The two commands to raise the gun should sound identical, like a man who has stopped thinking. A two-player scene above all, one voice rising and one sinking.
The dialogue is muted and everything else stays — the score, the room, the picture. You record each line over the silence and the scene plays back with you in the cast. How a dub is made · what the score measures.
