The scene
Norman Osborn walks into the boardroom with the best numbers of his career and walks out fired. Costs are down, revenues are up, Oscorp has overtaken Quest Aerospace as the military’s main supplier, and the board’s response is that this is precisely why they are selling the company, to Quest, on the condition that Norman goes. Willem Dafoe plays the entire arc in ninety seconds: crisp corporate confidence, confusion, pleading, one scream about everything he has sacrificed, and a final two-word question that promises something terrible for everyone at the table.
Norman has eleven of the nineteen lines, the first board member six, breezy and smug, the second board member two, formal and final. Structurally it is a presentation that gets hijacked and turns into an execution. The most beloved detail is not a word at all: the first board member slurps his drink right after telling Norman he is out. The rhythm is measured until it breaks, and then it goes very quiet, which is scarier than the shouting.

Performing it
Norman’s opening is boardroom-smooth and slow; resist speeding it up. The trap is the gear change, from asking why nobody told him to a screamed line about sacrifice in the space of four lines, then straight back down to almost a whisper for the last question. The slurp is a line, so do the slurp. The first board member’s wonderful-news line should sound genuinely delighted, because that is what makes it cruel. Norman against the board is a natural two-player split. Either go far bigger than seems reasonable on the scream, or underplay everything and let the slurp be the loudest thing in the room.
