The scene

A livestream clip. IShowSpeed has just beaten a viewer in a match and offers a good-game, and the viewer comes apart: a gasp, a noise like a boiling kettle, then a tearful plea that he needed the win because of his family’s situation. A second voice on the call, watching the stream, cuts in furious that Speed is trying not to laugh. From there it is three people talking past each other for forty seconds, one crying, one shouting, and the streamer at the centre saying nothing at all.

Speed has only three lines, all in the first ten seconds. The Crying Fan has ten, several of them sobbing rather than speech. The Loud Fan has eight, each an escalating accusation about laughing at your own fans, and he swears freely throughout. What makes it dub-worthy is the shape: a polite handshake of a start, then a collapse, then a lecture, with no resolution. It is the internet’s classic dynamic of one person in distress and another person angrier on their behalf than they are themselves.

Performing it

The kettle noise is a line by itself, so commit to it. The Crying Fan’s pleas run into each other and should sound genuinely choked. The Loud Fan gets louder with every line and asks the fans question twice, so vary the second. The source is heavy on profanity; you can keep it or swap words, the rhythm survives either way, and the game does not care. Speed’s three lines are done before the drama starts, so a two-player room splits cleanly into crier and shouter. A good angle is the Loud Fan delivered as a calm, deeply disappointed HR representative.

The dialogue is muted and everything else stays — the score, the room, the picture. You record each line over the silence and the scene plays back with you in the cast. How a dub is made · what the score measures.
