The scene

Eight lines in Latin American Spanish, and the most one-sided flirtation in the film. Mike Wazowski arrives at Roz's desk with a greeting for his succulent garden snail and a question about who they're going to scare today. Five lines are his, three are hers.

Roz is not interested. He didn't file his paperwork last night. Mike suggests the paperwork might be better off sent flying; Roz suggests it doesn't happen again. He promises to be more careful, and she signs off with the line the scene is famous for — she's watching him, always watching. Thirty-six seconds.

Performing it

Roz is the part, and it lives entirely in the voice: low, dragging, completely unhurried, with the last line delivered from further away as she's already turning back to her desk. Don't rush her — the length of her pauses is what makes Mike nervous. Mike should be bright and fast and slightly too familiar, and his final aside should be muttered, not projected. Eight lines and half a minute make this one of the quickest scenes here to try, in Spanish or in whatever accent you have.
