Still from funky ehhh, a scene in Viral Video

Take over every line of funky ehhh and see how close you can get.

The scene

Two kids on a Fortnite voice chat, twenty-eight seconds of pure stream-of-consciousness. The younger one announces that the musician Oliver Tree has died in Brazil, adding that they themselves are not in Brazil. The other agrees they are in Fortnite. Oliver Tree is very much alive; the kid is simply wrong, and confidently so. The kid has five lines and the guy has four, and the whole thing pivots on a noise the kid makes mid-sentence for no reason anyone can explain.

That noise is the title. The kid, trying to say something about meeting at a bar and driving something funky, trails off into a long, wobbling vowel and then attributes it to a song. The guy's final line, asking why he said that, is the only sensible response in the clip. One of the guy's lines is cut off after a syllable. There's no plot, just two kids talking past each other, and the appeal is how precisely stupid the timing is. It's a clip that sounds improvised because it was.

Performing it

The ehhh is the whole scene. It's long, it wavers, and it comes mid-sentence, so don't wind up for it; let it arrive as if your brain gave out. Everything before it should be mumbly and matter-of-fact, especially the claim about Brazil, which works because it's delivered as plain fact. The guy is the straight man: a bit slow, a bit baffled, and his cut-off line should just stop. Both players' lines are short and loose, so this is a good first two-player room. Comic angle: lean into the dead-eyed confidence of a kid who has no idea he's wrong.

The dialogue is muted and everything else stays — the score, the room, the picture. You record each line over the silence and the scene plays back with you in the cast. How a dub is made · what the score measures.
