The scene

Twenty-eight seconds of a press junket that became a meme entirely because of one interviewer's commitment. The question is reasonable enough: Elijah Wood's hair looks different across magazine shoots, so does he wear wigs? He doesn't. Has he? He hasn't. Will he? Maybe. When? At that point he just laughs, and the clip ends. The interviewer has five lines and Wood has four, and the fifth question is the one that breaks him.

The comedy is escalation by conjugation. The interviewer moves through past, present and future tense with the seriousness of someone building a case, and Wood's answers stay short, polite and increasingly amused, until the demand for a date is more than anyone could answer with a straight face. He comes across as a good sport throughout, which is why the clip is affectionate rather than mean. Nobody is embarrassed here; the question is simply asked one time too many, and the laugh is the only possible reply.

Performing it

The interviewer's opening line is the fast one: a list of magazine titles rattled off in a single breath before the actual question arrives, so practise the run-up. After that, each wig question should be delivered more earnestly than the last, never as a joke, because the interviewer isn't in on it. Wood's answers are tiny; the skill is keeping them courteous while the amusement leaks in, and the final line is a laugh, so make it a real one. An ideal two-player scene, five lines against four, and both roles are funny.
