The scene

SpongeBob invents a hot dog out of leftovers and Mr. Krabs discovers the profit margin. It opens in the kitchen — Krabs is unimpressed until he hears the ingredients were free — and moves out to the customers, where one bite turns the dining room into a chant. Thirty-eight lines across six parts: Krabs has ten, a customer has nine, SpongeBob six, Squidward five, and two more diners fill in the crowd.

Nearly two minutes, and the shape is a slow build to nonsense. Squidward gets a small tragedy of his own on the side — a moment of quiet, no grease, and the stench of a miserably failed life — while behind him a table works itself up to shouting the word 'weeners' in unison. The scene ends on the price board and Squidward's outrage at $4.99 with cheese.

Performing it

The chant is the finish, so don't spend everything before it. Krabs is a haggle: 'would you pay the same as a Krabby Patty' should be casual, and 'how about double' should be instant. Squidward's three lines are the only sincere ones in the pack and want a flat, exhausted read — no jokes. The three diners are best split among a room, because the fun of the ending is three people arriving at the same word at the same time and getting steadily louder.
